Open Rehearsal – La traviata

A Special Invitation from Opera Carolina, The Opera Guild of Charlotte and Friends of the Opera Charlotte:  Please join us and listen to the cast of La traviata (the fallen woman) as they rehearse together for the first time.  La traviata, the second opera of our 62nd season, is an opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi to a libretto by Franceso Maria Piave based on the play by Alexandre Dumas, fils, La Dame aux Camélias (The Lady of the Camellias).  La traviata premiered on 6 March 1853 at Teatro La Fenice, Venice.  The opera takes place in Paris around 1850.  The timeless story of Camille is retold in Verdi’s classic of a Parisian courtesan who surrenders to love.  Based on the true romance of Alexandre Dumas and Marie Duplessis, La traviata tells the story of Paris’ most famous courtesan, Violetta Valéry, who leaves her destructive life to live with her first real love, Alfredo Germont.  But social bias and Violetta’s failing health turn love to tragedy and remorse.  Get swept up in the grandeur of one of the world’s most beloved operas, La traviata!  Click here for more information:  La TraviataThis is a unique opportunity to see the performers up close as well as get a glimpse of an opera production behind the scenes.  Representatives from Opera Carolina’s affinity groups, Opera Guild and FOTO, will there for those who are interested in becoming members of these important and fun support groups.  The rehearsal will take place at Avondale Presbyterian Church’s Family Life Center Gymnasium, located at 2821 Park Rd.
